When designing joinery always think about future uses of the space. Here’s some joinery I designed for a playroom last year. Inside the cupboards is a huge amount of storage for toys and books. The ledge at the end makes it a great space for craft and drawing at the moment and will become a place for guests to rest their bags when this playroom turns in to a guest room down the track. Inside the cupboards are removable, adjustable shelves that can be replaced with a hanging rod for guests to hang their clothes (which we ordered at the same time joinery was made so it’s there if/when it’s needed). I do this trick in most kids cupboards that I design as shelves are normally much handier for kids to store stuff but for resale or for when kids get older, you’ll want plenty of hanging space. 👍🏻
Polished rendered walls make a great alternative to tiles in the bathroom - and have no grout lines to try and keep clean! I used this finish in a renovation project finished late last year and I love how it’s turned out. 🖤🖤🖤
My husband finally hung up the @stringfurniture shelving in our laundry today and I just love it! It has no real purpose except to look nice 😅 as I wouldn’t actually use it to display anything that is functional in the laundry 🤣 but it really finishes off the space and makes me happy ☺️ I’ve taken to decanting my laundry detergent and napisan out in to cork top bottles on the bench as I saw it somewhere on insta and liked how it looked. I thought it was a great idea until I did it and realised my detergent was blue 🤦🏻‍♀️🙃 The bottles were a few dollars from @kmartaus if anyone likes the idea. Anyway very happy with my laundry 🧺
Since my post about my private Facebook group yesterday the group has grown by 50 new members, which is amazing!! Yesterday we were talking Muuto dots. Today I’ve been letting the group know my favourite paint colour combinations, including the white paint I used in almost all my projects and the exterior grey/white combination that I love that doesn’t look too blue. If you are keen to get tips and tricks like that then please join the group! Search “The Little Design Corner Community” to find us and join the fun ☺️ Because I hate people who tease - the answer is Lexicon Half (my favourite white) and Grey Pail/Lexicon Half/Domino (the exterior combo you see here). But I did put a bit more detail in my community post about types of paints and some other combos, so please join if you think it would benefit you. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. 🙌🏻
Sometimes simple is best. I often see kids bedrooms on Insta that are so overly styled. They look amazing in photos but imagine living with all the bits and pieces and having to sort that out all the time! 🤯 Not to mention how much it would all cost! I prefer to spend on a few quality pieces that will last a child for a long time (like this Miffy nightlight) and grow with your child. This simple styling also suited the period features of the federation bungalow perfectly.
Have you joined my private Facebook community?? Today inside the group we are chatting all things Muuto dots - including how I use them in my projects, hacks and ideas plus where to purchase! Plus others are sharing their own use of Muuto dots in their own homes. If you would like to join a community of lovely people interested in renovation and design and have a place to ask questions and get ideas - then we would love to have you in the group! Search The Little Design Corner Community on FB and send a request to come on in! ☺️ Please also tag anyone else you think might be interested in joining. X
Wherever possible get a mudroom next to your laundry and at the place where you enter the house day to day. This cupboard hid school bags, hand vac charging, shoes and more. The bench seat is where you sit to take off dirty rugby boots and it’s all next to the laundry to strip off before entering the house. The drawer under the bench seat housed our “hat box” - yes that’s a thing in our house - anyone else have one of those 🤷🏻‍♀️ Between 5 of us there is a lot of hats!!! This was a really functional space that looked beautiful as well! Win, win!
Is anyone in the process of planning or doing a bathroom renovation??? I'm looking for 7 people who would be willing to have a 15-20 minute phone chat with me about a product I'm in the process of developing. If you're thinking of renovating a bathroom this year - or about to start a bathroom renovation and you could chat with me in the next week or so then please DM me. I'm more than happy to offer some tips/tricks on your bathroom renovation while we are chatting as a way of saying thank you for your time ☺️ TIA xx
✨ New blog post is up - surprising early decisions you’ll need to make when planning your renovation ✨ If you’re renovating this year you will want to read my article about the early decisions you’ll need to make. I’m sure there will be things on the list that you didn’t know you needed to decide on BEFORE you get started. One is window dressings. In this bedroom the pelmet for the sheer curtains and the electrical rough in for the concealed motorised blinds all had to be decided on before framing. Unfortunately due to ceiling height and existing roof lines we couldn’t conceal pelmet up in the ceiling, but this is an option if you plan far enough in advance. But if you leave decisions like this too late you will have your curtains and blinds exposed and won’t get the same quality of finish. Click link in bio to the blog to read my other tips! I hope they are helpful ☺️
This living room cost about $3,000 or so to style - for a client who wanted me to style their place for renting out on @airbnb. You don’t have to spend a fortune to make your space look great. The trick is to mix and match expensive and inexpensive pieces and see what you can find in sales. The rug was from @armadilloandco but from their sale range, coffee table from @globewest from a floor stock sale. Sofa from @loungeloversfurniture and tv cabinet from @mockaaustralia. The stacked stools from @ikea_australia can either be pulled up at the dining table for extra seating or used as side tables next to the sofa, great versatility. The TV is on a swivel bracket as this room had a really tricky layout and I wanted to face the sofa towards the views of Bondi Beach. Love how this room turned out given the budget I was asked to stick to. The blues were perfect and matched perfectly with the ocean! 🌊
