Three ways to be more productive

Let's set ourselves up for success by talking about productivity (one of my favourite topics!!!).

I know that so many of you struggle with the mental hurdle of starting a business or doing more with it because you feel you don't have any more time in your day. You are parents, you work full time, you've got carer responsibilities, you need to look after your household responsibilities - the list goes on! And trust me, I get it. I have all of those responsibilities as well!

My Mum has always said something that has stuck with me "if you want something done, give it to a busy person". So just because you are busy, don't let this be the excuse that you can't fit in the things you need to do to reach your goals and achieve your dreams.

3 ways to be more productive (even as a busy mum!)

Here are some productivity hacks that work for me:

1. Schedule your calendar

I block every minute of my day with the tasks I need to get done. When my calendar says it's time to start something, I do that and then I work to complete that task in the time I have allocated myself. I work well under pressure and this hack helps me to focus, avoid distractions and get a lot of stuff done in a small amount of time. To find out more about how I plan out my week you can watch this video.

2. Plan your week in advance

If you've been here for a while you'll know that I am a big believer in doing all the thinking for your week upfront and then just implementing what you've told yourself you are going to implement after that. For me, I do all my thinking in a 20 minute session on a Sunday. Then come Monday morning I hit the ground running and complete the tasks I've set myself. To find out more about this technique you can watch this video.

3. Go analogue

Another thing I do is to work in sprints - so blocks of about 45-60 minutes of time where I set one task, remove all distractions and then get it done. I was finding that this sometimes went sideways if I was working on something I didn't really want to do or was something that was difficult. I would find myself getting distracted by my phone or other browser tabs.

So a hack I picked up recently was to purchase a simple analogue timer clock and have this as my visual reference in front of me as I work. The red count down really helps me stay focused. You can get these from Amazon for not much money and I highly recommend this hack if you're a bit prone to distraction like me! :)

So I know I've shared a lot of those ideas with you before. But it can be easy to forget simple tricks that really make a big difference so I thought it was a great time to just refocus on some ideas for making this year a year of productivity and action taking!
