How to be more productive

Let's talk productivity!

Every day you have a choice to make...

Either you go through the motions in life, are reactive to things happening around you and go in circles each week without making a huge amount of progress.

OR

You live your life on purpose. You are proactive, plan ahead and are productive with the limited time you have to work on things that are important to you.

If you want to be more like the second person then here are my three tips for you:

Tip 1: Plan your weeks in advance

I do this in my Sunday Planning Session - you can find out more about that in this video here >>>

Tip 2: Batch your tasks

Group similar tasks together and do a lot of them all at once (e.g. design work, client meetings, social media scheduling, content creation). This will avoid your brain having to switch tasks constantly and will honestly help you get more done. I use my Calendar planning system to organise my time in this way. You can learn about that here >>>

Tip 3: Stay on top of the little things

Every little thing you can 'do as you go' throughout the day will add up to getting a lot done without much effort. I have a rule that if something will take me less than a few minutes to get done then it gets done right then.

And finally - here is a brain dump of some other ideas to improve your productivity:

  • clean and tidy up as you go - this avoids the need for major clean ups

  • make your bed every day - this will start your day in the right mindset!

  • remove notifications from your phone (helps you stay focused on task at hand)

  • know when you work at your best and schedule your highest value tasks for that period (for me it's 5am for you it might be the evening - know what it is and do your hardest work then!)

  • tidy and declutter your office and desk each afternoon before you stop work

  • monitor and track your time for an entire week - yes every minute!) Where is your time going? Where are you wasting time? How much time are you spending on revenue generating activities?

  • have a system for getting things out of your head and on to paper or in to an app. I have just started using Notion to do this and will share my new system when I'm a bit more on top of it.

  • spend 5 minutes at the start and end of each day reflecting on what you want to do that day and then how you did. If you don't reflect and measure what you're doing you won't make progress. Don't leave it to chance!
