My Monthly Review - August 2022

I have been publicly sharing my monthly business reviews since January 2022 (scroll to the bottom of this post to see my others).

This is a reset process I go through on the first of every month to review the month that has just been and to plan for the month ahead.

I highly encourage all of my clients and students to do a similar process each month as it helps keep you accountable and see what is working and isn’t working in your business.

If you want a free checklist to use you can grab that here:

If you aren’t regularly tracking what is happening in your business then it’s very difficult to assess what’s working, what isn’t working, what progress you are making (or not making!) and how you can improve.

My review process normally takes me about 20 minutes to complete each month and when I look back on my previous entries I’m so grateful that I have a record of what has been happening so I can look back on how far I have come!

A quick note before we start…

I share this information publicly because I’m a completely open book and want to encourage and inspire other women and mothers about what is possible with their businesses.

When I was starting my ow business I used to follow a few business owners who did something similar to this and I found it hugely inspiring and helpful as it showed me what was possible in my own business.

However, I’m aware that some people find the sharing of business results and revenue numbers triggering, so if that’s you then I suggest you skip this post and jump in to some of my other free content instead :)

Here’s my review from August 2022.

Notes from Last Month

What went well, what didn’t go well…

My main aim for August has been to focus on my recovery from my craniotomy (brain surgery) at the end of July. I’m now 5 weeks post-op and I’m starting to feel a bit more normal again, but it’s been a tough month and a lot harder than I was expecting.

After a few weeks of taking a complete break from work I got back into content creation early in August and have been happy to have continued to create consistent, daily content for most of this month. This has taken me a few hours each day, which has been about all the work I have felt up to each day as I am still getting tired quite easily.

Despite not really working all that much I’m really happy that revenue hasn’t dropped too much this month - just once again shows the power of having an online courses business and how amazing this business model is. After a few quite big months in June and July it has dropped back a bit from where it was but it has still ended up over $100K, which is obviously fantastic.

I have also put a bit more effort into Twitter and LinkedIn this month - nothing crazy yet but just testing the waters there with a few posts and have seen my followers (very slowly!) climb up on both platforms. Given how much I enjoy writing online Twitter and LinkedIn are great platforms for me to focus on. But I want to do this in a way that feels right for me - not just copying what others are doing over there and saying the same thing that everyone else is already saying, which I find so tiresome. So still thinking about best way to make that all work in a way that feels right for me.

Last week I got the evergreen funnel set up for Online Course Creator, which involved getting the webinar uploaded (I had made this before my operation luckily, but not had time to get the funnel itself set up), writing my email sequences, setting up the funnel steps, creating webinar landing/thank you pages and things like that. It wasn’t a small job and took a few days of quite hard work (especially for me at the moment!). But so far the feedback on that webinar has been great and we’ve had some new students sign up for the course.

Paul (my husband who runs our paid ads for us) is currently testing some advertising to this webinar so we will see how that goes and tweak this over the coming weeks as needed. My aim is still to get this course to generate $1 million in revenue each year. This requires enrolling about 1000 students per year, which is very doable based on numbers we achieve for my SketchUp course. The key for this course is to create more (and better) content around online content creation, which is going to be my aim moving forward (as soon as I feel better).

I’m also happy to have got back into my pattern of walking each day, which I was able to do about half way through the month. Yesterday I walked 11km, which felt like pretty good progress for only a few weeks post a major surgery. I’m heading back to my strength training sessions from next week. This will be pretty hard after all this time but I’m hoping that my years of strength training will mean that I make progress again quite quickly once I’m back. But I’ll also be really happy to get back into my proper routine, as I’m feeling pretty gross and out of shape after lying around for nearly 6 weeks.

I’m starting a personal 90 day challenge on Monday 5th September (which will end 4th December) just to give myself a bit of a challenge around regaining my strength, health and fitness. I’ve been preparing meal plans to help with this with the goal of the challenge to be to: gain muscle, be healthy and enjoy life :) So we will see how that goes!

I’ve also been doing a lot of thinking about my business and what I want to do next as I lie around, so I’m excited to start bringing some of these projects to life over the coming weeks and months. Those ideas are still in the works but will write about them more as they come to fruition.

Our pool is also planned to start this month, which is getting me focused on the renovation again. The boys’ bathroom is in desperate need of an upgrade so we will probably start with that - maybe this month? Will see if we can find a builder, which is almost impossible in Sydney at the moment!!

Finally - in fun news this month we picked up our new Tesla Model Y. I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet (as I’m still not allowed to drive for another week after my operation) but I’m looking forward to driving it next week once I’ve got the all clear to do that.

Looking forward - plan this month
